Ask HN: Who wants a running CP/M system?

6 pointsAnimalMuppet9 comments

I have an old Big Board SBC (Single Board Computer) system that (as of a year or two ago) still runs.

Are there organizations of hobbyists who still care about this stuff? Perhaps less likely, is there a museum that might be interested?

[Edit: Based in western US.]

There are lots of people on Twitter with 6502 (and similar) in their screen names that love showing pics of devices they own of that nature, and projects they do with them. You will definitely find an avid person to take it off your hands.

Also, there is this site: http://www.6502.org. Some of the groups are no longer (like the ones listed on G+ for obvious enough reasons) but it is an active community judging by the Twitter numbers.

Keep this guy in mind. He had his labour of love wiped out by the Russian invaders: https://www.npr.org/2022/03/29/1088680989/a-retro-computer-m...

Ah, sorry, the Big Board was a Z80 system, not 6502. Do you know of a similar group for the Z80?

Yes, CP/M was Z80 and I did give you a 6502 specific link, but it's still pretty much the same group of collectors and hackers. People who collect one pretty much always are also interested in others from the same computing era. I follow and am followed by several of them on Twitter. They're easy to find there.

I have a breadboard Apple I clone (6502), and a lone Z80 chip waiting to do something some day. People into retro computing overlap in a big way. I'm not in the same country as you, or I would certainly be interested.

I know a bunch of folks who'd be interested (including myself). Those bad boys just ran and ran with very little tweaking. Love 'em to death. If no one else wants it, let me know. I'd be happy to give it a new home. Near Seattle here.

Alas, your profile does not include contact information.

Another idea would be to contact the Computer History Museum and see if they want a donation:

Intel iSBC 80/10 must be quite valuable. Other MDS-800 parts are. Put it on Ebay. Othewise some crook takes it for free and sells it on Ebay.

Edit: Ouch it is some Z80-board. Nevermind.

I think mentioning where you are based might be helpful as it will influence shipping costs, import duties, etc.

OK, it's spoken for. A family friend wants it.
