Ask HN: What is ur take on SaaS as a biz model on a builder than on products?

The idea is basically you are subscribing to that person(builder) where you get access to all the products that builder built it for free or based on whatever the terms.

I see something like this on Github where developers sponsor other developers to contribute to open source projects.

What if the same business model is applied to consumer products? (This may sound stupid, but I'm going to ask anyway)

It would be great if you share your thoughts from builder's POV and consumer POV?
