Leaders have relentlessly high standards. Of themselves? No, of ICs. I have heard too many horror stories from friends at Amazon and how so many deadlines were made up, pushing engineers to burn out, engineers cutting corners to ship stuff and managers getting praise for "driving results".
I think high standards should go both ways and engineers should have mechanisms to hold their management chain accountable in substantial ways.
Agreed. It cuts both ways. Any idea even with positive intentions can be abused when taken to the extremes. That's what typically happens when the means becomes the end itself.
That's covered by the new Leadership Principle to be Earth's best employer /s.
He sells cheap counterfeit Chinese products, and children’s toys laced with lead. What’s this about high standards?
It is interesting how the Musk approach of setting extreme goals and building powerful teams to reach them ends up assembling organizations that are completely different from what Bezos puts together.
I'm surprised Bezos is not writing on setting decent wages for his workers...
