It's very cool that we regularly send/receive data throughout our solar system. I think this gets trivialized because communication has become so normalized on our own planet and everyday lives... but it's actually pretty amazing.

It it just me or did they include barely any soudns of Mars itself and mostly just sounds of the Rover and its instruments? I totally get that maybe those sounds are much more audible but.......I would really love a longer track of just Mars itself even if it is just some boring wind.

I'm curious if the density of the Martian atmosphere is sufficient to transmit sound that we could hear inside a helmet, and at what level.

Obviously a fixable problem with an external microphone hooked up to the helmet earphones, but I wonder abt natural sounds, wind noise, etc. Could be pretty cool to hear things directly.

Any astro-audiologists out there?

According to NASA [1], high pitched sounds would be attenuated, but you’d still hear low rumblings.

That would be incredible. I really like the aesthetic of the first part.

I bet it's no more interesting than random sounds from say, the Colorado desert. It's only news worthy because Mars is far away from earth.
