In Defense of Friction

Thoughts around the importance of friction, slowing down, setting limits, and practicing doing one thing at a time have been percolating awhile now. Re-listening to Nirvana, their contemporaries, and the roots of Grunge has been at least engaging, possibly helping refine my values and subsequent actions. HN is the long tail of my social-media involvement, for example; I'm not quite ready to stop shouting into the void, and I find so many of your comments thought-provoking and educational that I'll probably stick with it awhile.
That said, my long-term preference is learning through stories, mostly books, but also talks with neighbors, friends, and family. Reading several books concurrently over a week, and practicing active recall along the way, feels better than reading summaries; with the latter I might access more information but it won't stick as well because I don't have as much context or time to sync with it.
