Almost ten years ago I had to work with diamond semiconductors. It was rather hard and pretty expensive obtaining devices in the required size back then. Researchers seemed to have a feeling that this was not because of technology but because of the companies making and selling diamonds.
I can only hope something like this comes to the consumer market eventually. SSD storage has gotten a lot cheaper, but is no where the price of magnetic disks.
SSDs are very near the price of magnetic discs? Near as dammit for a one-off consumer purchase. They're still behind at higher consumer ranges like over a terabyte, but for most of the market... are you posting from several years ago?
