Feel for you. Without civil liberties being protected at all costs, we have to go underground and into the woods.
I think the last couple of years have demonstrated that ~nowhere on earth really protects civil liberties in any meaningful fashion.
Hence we have to go into the woods and or underground :)
I really have all the wrong life-skills for the current moment.
I should have learned so many useful things instead of this programming crap.

True, I'm still proud of how well the US did comparatively though.

I feel for people that were born there. This is just a Western journalist that has willingly decided to go to China. There were never guaranteed civil liberties, even before he decided to move there. It's just that now it is an inconvenience for him, so he decided to vent.
