Ask HN: Real estate agents and personal data collection?

With high housing prices, there’s not shortage of real estate agents. The bar is very low to start one.

As a renter, you have to provide so much personal information and identity docs to (often many) real estate agents. Tech/security isn’t these peoples forte, and yet we trust them with troves of personal info.

Are there any solutions here? Or am I stuck with trusting random people with vast amounts of personal info?
