AirPods looted by Russians giving away their location via Find My

appleinsider.com

It seems to me to be damn stupid to make this information publicly available at this time for obvious reasons.

Is there some other reason or strategy that I've missed?

Some journalists would give away their own location to the enemy to meet a deadline or secure a scoop, not intentionally but they may not be thinking in terms of sides.

But it’s not like the source is trying to keep a secret.

Reckon you must be right and they're not concerned about tracking. Other that or stupidity.

It could also be deliberate brazen bravado and done to prove a point.

I wonder if the tracking info was actually useful to the Ukrainians.
