I'm really curious, is this surprising? How would these numbers look like for people who had a bad flu and were bedridden for a few weeks?

I wonder if other studies like this have been done with other infections? I suspect that many infections lead to worse outcomes for surgery. In this case it would be most interesting to see how this manifested. Was it blood clots, heart or organ failure or just undefined cause of death.
