Ask HN: Build systems for large open source projects

Out of curiosity, does anyone have links to the build infrastructure for large open source and other projects. Thinking Firefox, Chrome, Linux, Ubuntu and other distros, etc... I can't seem to find anything off hand... What is required to build these projects multiple times a day (or even hour) over all supported platforms and architectures?
