Ask HN: Who Is Hiring in Canada?

15 pointsrpi133713 comments

I have recently started to look for a Full-stack development job around Canada, preferably in Toronto or Vancouver. I am currently based in Europe (EU citizen) and would like to relocate in the near future. I have around 8 years of experience (Barclays IB, GE Healthcare, IBM, startups), and have an Engineering IT BSc from 2014, which makes me eligible to apply for a work visa.

Can anyone recommend some job sites or even companies worth reaching out to? Linkedin does not seem to work for this particular case.

Thanks!

I'd like to plug the company I work for: I'm at Bree (YC 2021)[1], and we're hiring for a senior software engineer. We're currently trying to help Canadians who live paycheck to paycheck. We work remotely, with half the team in Vancouver. We're in a very fun stage of growth and there's a lot of stuff to be done! For more information, please take a look at our official job description [2].

I'm not aware of any Canada-specific job boards. You could try linkedin and filtering by location, though.

FWIW, we're hiring devs: https://makofintech.com/en/careers#jobPostings

We do a low-code workflow automation service for finance. I'm the founder, happy to answer any questions (email in my bio). I've sponsored candidates from Europe before and don't mind doing it again.

Good luck in your search :)

I know Amazon hires in Vancouver (search their careers site using a location filter).

Microsoft also hires in Vancouver and probably other Canada locations: https://careers.microsoft.com/professionals/us/en/l-vancouve...

I'll plug my employer: RideCo

We are a microtransit firm out of Waterloo, with operations across North America. Not quite T-town, but still a fine place to live and work. Company is about 80 people across engineering/business/ops. I'd say about 30 engineers so far.

Our team is looking to grow and we need full-stack talent. Python (Django), Angular and Postgres shop. The problem space is interesting and our product gets a lot of love from our clients. We actually just hired an EU employee who is working remotely and plans to relocate, so that is definitely an option.

We do a lot with a little and I've worked alongside some brilliant people here.

Thanks mikrl, just applied on the website1

Would love to know more about you. We are growing in Canada (Toronto/Montreal) and you may be a good fit! DM me if you are interested: https://www.linkedin.com/in/danielserrano

For Vancouver, try T-Net

Take a look at Unity. We have tons of positions open in Canada, Montreal and Vancouver especially.

Check out KPMG, deloitte, Shopify, Enbridge, various banks, Rogers, Bell, various insurance, AMD

Canada job bank run by the government might be of help.

Thanks everyone for the tips! I will reach out to some of you after the easter! Happy holidays!

SAP is hiring in Vancouver

Aren't they always, like Oracle, IBM, Tesla, SpaceX, other meat grinders?
