tagline:

> Unlimited, ad-free, customized radio

faq:

> Music is not free but Jango is able to give you unlimited amounts of it for free thanks to ads. Still, we try our best to keep commercial interruptions down to a minimum. In fact, you get only one commercial per day if you connect your account with Facebook and, at the moment, we are showing none on our mobile apps!

> Jango may use the information you provide when signing in to show you ads that are more relevant to your age and gender. Making ads more effective helps us, and you, but you can edit or remove this information in your Edit Profile page.

So, they are blatantly lying?

No, user abuse is free. Some company have paid user-abuse packages, but it's free here!

Er, no.

They're saying "it's free to you but we pay for it, because ads."

You know, like broadcast television, and a large chunk of the web.

On the home page, it says:

> Unlimited, ad-free, customized radio

how is that not a lie?

Looks like the copy got mangled in a few edits. The music is commercial free, but they show you ads.

Literally the first thing you read on the homepage is wrong. They are either stupid or lying, either way I'm not using the site.

I made a thing that does something similar, only with out of copyright music. It has stations too, like this:

https://www.locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=gillespie

https://www.locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=Armstrong

https://www.locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=be-bop

https://www.locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=Blues

https://www.locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=Garland

https://www.locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=Waltz

https://www.locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=Jazz

Won’t play for me on my phone but something like this would be nice for my bathroom music player startup: https://Loodio.com

Currently I paid a friend to make some lounge songs that come pre-installed and then will let the users upload their own mp3 music.

Cool! Consider m3u playlists. Here is the m3u for this site: https://locserendipity.com/78RPM.m3u

Will check it out thanks!

At first I laughed at "bathroom music player startup" but I checked out the site and came away impressed!

Haha yeah it’s not a sexy problem that’s why the product has to be :)

Did you understand what problem is solves when checking the site?

I did! The name makes sense too and is a good mix of witty and intuitive. Best of luck to you!

Thank you!

This yodeling station is an acquired taste: https://www.locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=Yodel

is there a list of all the stations somewhere? i can't find it.

The url has a keyword at the end, like “Jazz” and then only music with that keyword plays, so you can make your own:

Example:

Locserendipity.com/PushPlay.html?q=Country

oh, so this is essentially turning a keyword-search into a playlist. neat!

it would be nice if each song being played would be added to the browser history so that one can go back to previously played songs or even bookmark the good ones.

This version does something like that. You can save your playlist in a text file and even the HTML file will still work if you save it. It doesn’t matter where on the net you link. Any MP3 will play.

Want to remove static? This one has a low pass filter built in (but skipping tracks doesn’t work): https://www.locserendipity.com/Listen.html

Well I’ll offer a positive feedback. I was curious how well it would accommodate my… sorta weird musical taste. Typed in an artist I didn’t expect to find (Mr Gnome): nope, again not surprising. Realized that was an unfair obscurity, picked another which is less obscure but still not very mainstream or likely to be highlighted in the demos (Toadies): immediately found a great song, and it wasn’t the predictable hit.

I don’t have much interest in radio/shuffle that’s not how I listen to music, but it was pleasantly surprising anyway.

Just to say - the playlists showing to me on the home page are the least hip selection I think I've ever seen. Not a good first impression.

Good

New Worship Hits

The ~96kbps audio makes this unbearable, even if it does come up with reasonably good stations based on input. It just sounds awful.

Nice concept. I miss Grooveshark though.

Audiogalaxy

jango is as old as time

It stopped working for me, glad it is back Edit: nope not working in Canada

Their domain is in one of adguard's blocklists [0]. Somewhat suspicious

I’ve had a jango account since 2006(?) maybe. I haven’t logged in or otherwise used it since about then either but I still get emails from them on occasion. Maybe I should check it out again and (shameless plug) stream some stupid American pig tracks

omg, this is just like pandora! i wonder what happened to them.

AFAIK they shut down everywhere except the US.

Here in Australia, pandora.com currently redirects to a 404 page (it has been this way for years)[1].

Pandora is still around. They were acquired by SiriusXM, and a lot of the Pandora functionality was brought into the SXM app. Though I believe the standalone app is still available and working.

Wasn't it pandora who acquired rdio?

still works

how is this different/better than airsonic? or funkwhale?

Jango is internet radio. They provide the music.

Airsonic/Funkwhale appear to be self-hosted services for streaming your existing music collection.

Literally no station was playing and I tried a lot

0/10
