This is specifically IEEE Spectrum, and yes it is part for the course for Spectrum articles.

They do tend to be pretty credulous. This one, in particular, is written by a guy running a company selling this technology.

Someone writing about stuff they sell makes it less credible, imho.

credulous, as per Google, means "having or showing too great a readiness to believe things."
