As an example, loving animals and eating meat are not contradictory ideals.

I love animals, therefore I care about their well-being as a species, therefore I participate as a hunter to help harvest the ideal amount of said species to keep the entire population healthy each year as determined by science, because I love the animals I won’t waste them so therefore I eat them.
