So how can we know what is true vs. what is dubious or outright planted and falsified?
I wouldn't expect a 20 year old to be exposed to the theoretical leanings of paleoanthropologists though, so it's not very surprising you missed it.
Of course the CCP propagandizes everything they can so something like this is denoted as "In China"(to hilariously draw connections between them and people who were no probably no more Chinese than you or I.) If you are familiar with this topic(Stone Age technology) you could probably think of sites 60k+ years older than this one in Africa or the Levant that are significantly more interesting than this one, but it's still news worthy.
