New speed camera ‘detect’ vehicles braking as they approach

Is it about safety or tax/revenue?

Some of the camera companies even did revenue share omg

Profit and a chance of safety

I think my first intro to this was from a Not Just Bikes video on speed limits [1], and that profoundly affected my opinion on this stuff. I now think a lot of road design is just utterly broken, and it includes speed limits, what that channel (and other related) refer to as "stroads", and intersections (roundabouts vs traffic lights).

That video in particular is highly relevant to the speed camera thing.

You think that the Germans don't use speed cameras? Not all of their roads are (or can be) the autobahn.

Fooling? Well, it forces people to drive slower or pay out of pocket for the privilege. Those who can't afford it will have to slow it down naturally. So, it doesn't fix the real problem of making roads safer for higher speed driving but the symptom of roads being unsafe at higher speeds. From a city/state/etc level this pays for itself and probably then some where as the alternative of better roads is pure cost with the benefits not being an item on the yearly audit.

It's a frustrating read from a ML perspective, because of the ethics of it.
