I was in several long-time Yahoo! Groups when they shut down. All the groups moved to groups.io quite successfully and continue to thrive there. I have moderator privileges in one small group but hardly ever have to use them.
Found out about groups.io today and I'm thrilled. Looks incredibly well-done and feature-rich. Can't wait to try it out, and maybe ditch Slack in the process :)
