Does anyone have the scoop on hiring remote contractors in Russia as a US company?

Is is allowed? Are the sanctions prohibiting it? I'm referring to individuals - not companies.

You should ask a lawyer, not HN. And I don't really know how sanctions work in practice, but I wouldn't want to run afoul of a government that might want to make an example of anyone doing business with anyone residing in Russia past some cutoff point.
