Russian Patriarch Kirill Statement in Response to World Council of Churches

It's clear where the concern for the suffering and where the appeal to peace resides. The Russian Orthodox church even outside of Russia appears wholly politically compromised. I pray for all Russian Christians.

This is the guy who was photographed wearing a $30 000 watch, which was Photoshopped out by the authorities? Unfortunately, the watch was still visible in the table-top reflection. He is not so much compromised as seemingly one of Putin's elite kleptocrats.

He’s wearing a golden crown, kind of odd to worry about the watch.

The state and the church in Russia are dancing and courting for a long time now, just short of having the Tsar anointed by the patriarch. But not in pursuit of spiritual or moral purity.
