What do Russian owner's sanctions mean for Chelsea

I do. But not for the reasons you may think.
My position is that it is in no way justifiable to sanction the individuals, citizens of a country for the actions of their leaders.
Roman Abramovich is a billionaire that owns Chelsea Football Club. No doubt the way he earned his fortune is suspect.
However whatever he did in the past does not factor into what is going on now - no one cares. 4 weeks ago, everything he was doing was absolutely fine. What did he do wrong?
Nothing. What has changed is that Putin attacked Ukraine. But what does that have to do with Abramovich?
Nothing again. He is purported to be a friend of Putin's.
Do we have a rule of law? If it were shown that Abramovich had assisted Putin in some way, who would object to these sanctions? But nothing is shown legally. Our governments are acting in a unilateral way against people and their money - legality has nothing to do with it.
For those of us cheering these actions, spare a thought for those Russian that are not oligarchs. Is it ok that their bank accounts are frozen? Should you or I be held to account for the actions of our President or Prime Minister? Of course not.
If we are cheering the sanctions on, what we are cheering is for government to have the right to act outside the rule of law, and to act as judge, jury and executioner. Where does this end?
If I raise an objection to these actions, should I have my bank account frozen? I'm not expressing the sanctioned opinion, that's for sure. Perhaps I deserve punishment?
If this sounds ridiculous, just consider that this is what happened Ottawa to those who participated or even donated to the protests.
The concern here is that - if we do not take a moral position, and see this situation clearly - we are going into hard tyranny. Ultimately, the winners will be the worst oligarchs - they will have consolidated their power, at the expense of the freedoms of the individual. Is that where we want to go?
You also make a very good point that the government decreeing to freeze all the assets of a few individuals just like that without any due process is deeply troubling, although apparently legal.
