What about stopping everybody from doing such dangerous experiments?
Today we don't test anymore nuclear bombs by detonating them, we run
extensive computer simulations that had the welcomed side effect of
pushing the boundaries of HPC.
I am sure that there are lots of technicals hurdles to overcome before
being able to accurately simulate effect of pathogens, but we learned
a lot about viruses during this pandemic because we had a real push
to learn. Did we really need a pandemic to be able to investigate
biological phenomena that we could have been studied without putting
everything at risk?
I have no explanation for a bio-research lab that is unable to get rid
of deadly pathogens in its own research.
