They know their lavish lifestyles are not long for this world. I'm guessing they believe the Russian government cannot touch them, or they feel that "poverty" is worse than the consequences of defiance.
rather scary to consider this group as "allies" against war, to me. the desire to preserve this class's status feels somewhat opposed to some other values & beliefs that feel important to me.
