I've always been fascinated by Fresnel lenses[0]. Is this a similar concept of squeezing a much bigger lens down into a smaller space, or is it achieving something that would not be possible with a single lens?
It would be really cool to seen an animation of this showing a sweep of the approach angle from one side of the sensor to the other.
