A good point however is that the West can rarely be relied on to truly help its poorer allies, except maybe by saying a few words.
We always hear of the one-sidedness of the start of the Winter War when the Finns destroyed a much larger Soviet invasion. We don't always hear about the end of the Winter War when the Finns were forced to surrender and lost a lot of territory and resources.
Because of the Winter War the Germans thought that the Soviets would be a pushover. Hence Hitler's boast "You only have to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come crashing down." in mid-1941. Unfortunately for the Germans, the Soviets repeated the history of the Napoleonic War and marched into Berlin in 1945, just as they had previously marched into Paris in 1814.
