I love that this blog post recommends pestering people to take a survey, when there is literally a website called usertesting dot com that will connect you with a large panel of willing candidates to take exactly these kinds of tests.

I wouldn't take "product management 101" advice from anyone who has so clearly missed the step of researching the competition when it comes to determining product-market fit.

That's a random product, not the all-knowing-industry-standard-magical-site you are making it out to be

As far as I'm concerned, neither of those approaches would give you much value

Usertesting.com is the leading product in the field of remote user testing. It's very expensive, but very much worth it.

Why not ? I thought it was useful to have insights of how people are using your product and the two approaches help with that.

Usertesting.com is probably the most well known product in its class.
