What is with this epidemic of snarky two-sentence headlines that read like they were written for a high school newspaper staffed by the cast of Mean Girls?

This is not unique to the WSJ; I've seen this across all major news outlets and newspapers in the last year or two. They all follow the same formula: Statement, <period>, Response dripping with snark/sarcasm. They make the article reek of immaturity before I've even had a chance to read it.

I don't know, but I think people who have nothing better to do right now should read about the history of Russia's conflicts with the Chechens as background for this war.

I don't want to go into detail because I wouldn't necessarily be able to identify disinformation in Wikipedia.

If you want some background reading, I'd suggest checking out Mark Galeotti. He has written several short books on the Ukraine, the Russian military, and Putin, with much attention to factors relating to the current crisis.

With a very broad brush: The old experienced journalists (and editors, and sub-editors, and proofreaders, and fact-checkers) have been fired, and what remains are very young, cheap, inexperienced Twitter addicts, battling for your deteriorating attention against a constantly growing number of low-effort low-signal tabloid-style alternatives.

I hate it when somebody writes something as depressingly correct as you just did.
