What a great headline: only 8 words, explains the article perfectly, proper English, but playful. It must require a special talent because I absolutely could not have come up with those 8 words.

Cable sucking volcano. I am not surprised by the direction in the least but 5km? I wonder how much time did this take.

One can easily experience similar effect on the beach of almost every sea, no? Isn't it usual to feel currents pushing and pulling you in multiple directions at once?

Really interesting, today I learn about turbidity currents! It’s astonishing they can move the cable so far, more so _in the opposite direction_ to what you might expect

I had a private tour of the Tyco Resolute about 12 years ago. I should dig out the photos. Absolutely amazing to see the technology implemented to lay, recover, and repair cables. Also the control room technologies that allow the ship to hold position in many differing conditions. Reading the article was so similar to the description of processes the captain provided.

Nice read, but it does make you wonder if it's impossible to cover distance between Vava’u/Ha’apai and Tonga capital with regular wireless connection (there seem to be plenty of smaller islands in between too)?

Looking at the map, a cable from Vava'u to Niue may give some useful redundancy.
