Russia supplied 7% of U.S. crude oil imports in late 2021

"A planned 1,179-mile (1,897km) pipeline running from the oil sands of Alberta, Canada, to Steele City, Nebraska, where it would join an existing pipe. It could carry 830,000 barrels of oil each day."[1]
One of President Biden's first actions in office was cancelling that very pipeline.[2]
Then amazingly the same president approved Nord Stream 2 that would pump profits into Russia as it was pumping out it's oil.[3]
The cognitive dissonance required to understand these two separate but conflicted actions is mind boggling.

Is it really though?
They are pipelines that exist on different continents, with one traveling over home-soil and cancelled due to environmental reasons while the other was temporarily blocked due to political sanctions.
So let's break this down...
We imported record levels of oil from Russia in 2021. Instead of getting it locally it was shipped to the United States from overseas using tankers burning fossil fuel!
That's insane. A five year old could spot the problem. The rhetoric doesn't match reality or common sense.
When you burn fossil fuels from Russia it creates the same global GHG as oil from North America. If you burn oil to get it here it's worse for climate change.
None of it makes any sense.
The USA needs to stop buying conflict oil.
