I think it’s important to note that whoever wrote this article at the time of writing didn’t anticipate:

- the scale of the western sanctions

- the level of Ukrainian resistance

What's interesting is not that it got some stuff wrong, what is interesting is that it was written at all and that it very effectively proves that pretty much all of the reasons given there to the public about the Russian objectives in the present are nonsense.
