Should Apple Continue to Ban Rival Browser Engines on iOS?

The thing I miss most about leaving my Android Pixel 2 for an iPhone is real Firefox for mobile with Ublock Origin and other extensions. The Firefox on iOS is nowhere near as good, and I'd love to have Firefox back.

This lack of support for rival browser engines is one of the things holding me back from buying an ipad.

From an "anti-competitive" lens, no, Safari's monopoly on iOS is one of the only things creating meaningful competition for Alphabet financed browsers.

From a "Not having to use a crappy browser" lens, yes.

from the article:

"If Apple stops mandating the use of WebKit on iOS and iPadOS, the developers behind the mobile versions of browsers like Chrome and Edge could switch to Chromium like their desktop counterparts, enabling Chromium to obtain even larger overall market share and potentially limit the chances of rival technologies competing with it."

oops they said the quiet part out loud

Erm, no. I would love to be able to stop using "webkit-" or whatever in my CSS because everyone quit using Safari.

Rival browsers? What rival browsers?

To the Apple faithful, nothing else is worth considering.
