It hurts Germany, clearly. Germans will try to avoid a shooting war, but Germans would be very unhappy about paying for Putin's war. I don't think the current government would get much political ill will for refusing to support Putin's invasion, even if the lack of gas does hurt.
And Putin needs money to keep his population reasonably peaceful, and that means that he needs transit to countries that will pay. Turkey and Germany are key transit countries.
