Why does this even matter? The Qanon "big test conspiracy" had plenty of precursors, from David Icke's Reptilians, to the 80s/90s Satanic Panic, to medieval anti-semitism to hippy-dippy crystal healing anti-vaxxing.

The fact of the matter is that the USA let a whole bunch of stupid as hell conspiracy theories fester for years, and let Creationists deny science because they had some precious snowflake beliefs that we all gave them license to believe. In fertile ground like that, it's easy for people to just try things until one of them takes root and spreads like a weed. Qanon is that weed.

I mean, unless Qanon is convincingly revealed as a psy-op to get otherwise uninterested rubes to believe that Trump is their savior, Occam's razor says that Qanon is just the one that happened to gain traction.

I'm well past the stage of being angry or even frustrated at Qanon follower type people. Now it's pure naked contempt. I regard them with a look down the nose, with a satisfied sneer. I guess I've turned into the "elite" -- or at least elitist -- that they're worked up about.
