This is very cool, I can only imagine the experience with a VR platform. The addition of ADS-B is also something I've never considered, makes the virtual world very realistic.
MSFS 2020 natively inserts traffic based on ADS-B feeds, and there are addons that do the same for Xplane too. It lends a certain level of realism, especially if you live under the flight path of the airport you're flying around in the game.
Msfs does such a poor job of it though. Every time I fly it seems like there's only 1/10th of the planes there are in the real world.
That is by design; only 10% to 50% real world traffic is replicated into FS2020.
I imagine if you replicate all traffic you will never be able to take off and land at popular airports like JFK or LHR :)
They're already simulating tonnes of way more complex phenomena. Is it the API calls they'd need to make? Why not interpolate the positions better? I feel like this shouldn't be a performance problem in 2022.
The comment you're responding to is not talking about computing performance. They're talking about getting a word in sideways with ground control and the tower to get takeoff and approach clearance at those airports.
Is it? You can simulate all of the planes without simulating their air traffic communication. That would be already 99% of the way to a better experience.
I see an opportunity for tandem takeoffs, take risks you'd never take in real life!
