A case for self-aware technology
Extended, our entire brain itself is a neural network, imitations of which are already being built at very small scales for real world use cases.
If the 'laws' governing a neural network transmitting and processing information is able to be 'downloaded' (e.g. through either neural implants) or understood (E.g. simulations), in a similar way to human genome sequencing where the underlying code may be interpreted, it could be understood and replicated.
One possibility is human consciousness could be uniquely identified and replicated, much the same way unique DNA sequences are identified. Another, that an entire human's mind could be represented as a massive neural network which would contain consciousness though unable to be partitioned.
