Ask HN: Cheapest way to store a small amount of items

I'm planing on traveling rather extensively later this year, and I'd need to store some computer parts and mementos. We're taking maybe some graphic cards, a couple of old books and 3 hard drives. Everything else I'll donate to Goodwill or so. If push come to shove I'll just get a public storage unit, but I'd rather avoid that.
