Why are certain school books being banned in US?

This is dishonest reporting. Many of the books in question were simply removed from school curricula, that is not "banning."

Because America is being overrun by the un(der)educated and worse the educated yet hell-bent-on-destroying progress.

Has America ever been more educated than it is today?

"educated", not sure, but "science-oriented" was far more likely in the 50's and 60's. Part of the problem is that there's been no external threat to the US (or the West) for decades and the Lord of the Flies bit is taking over. Nothing to unite the disparate elements of society other than their hatred of each other.

Yup. People hate having their world view threatened and/or their precious snowflakes risking damage from reality. It’s also common to see skin deemphasized in the us as opposed to guns deemphasized elsewhere. Maus wasn’t about nudity it was about dehumanization. The latter shakes up one’s world view and they hate that.
