Ask HN: Uhm a new type of ask; how is your mental health?

Really bad. Feeling sad since my grandmother passed away this weekend. Also, a mix of stress and feeling of being lost due to multiple reasons related to taking care of my old mother and worrying about my mentally ill brother. I always have to pretend like I’m ok and be there for family so I don’t have anyone to tell about how I really feel. I’m also not able to find motivation to work and advance in my carrier. Adding to all of that is financial issues. I also feel like I’m dependent on adderall and started to abuse it since it helps me focus on work and avoid thinking about the other issues.however, I feel like it’s just making it worse. So yeah..thanks for asking!

Yep, I’d say we all can use some help, at least those of us not in a close-knit extended family/community that deals with stress in healthy ways.

I’ve been escaping to videogame-land more often than not during my limited free time, and now I know enough to know that’s a symptom of something I’ll later thank myself for digging into.

I’ve found The Blindboy Podcast immensely helpful in shifting my perspective. Not all episodes are directly about mental-health, and there are others who provide similar but from different backgrounds, like Jordan Peterson (who I found dissonant compared to Bb’s resonance; like with human counselors, it’s worth exploring to find a good fit for growth in the zone of proximal development).

Mentally I'm great. I'm bulking up and now my tummy needs antacids 24/7, so I need help in that department.
