Vimeo is holding our Patreon catalogue hostage

Patreon has structured this in a way that it's still pretty clearly the creator using Vimeo, not Patreon. I.e. you need to sign up for a paid Vimeo account, then link that to Patreon, then you can upload through Patreon UI to Vimeo and then include vimeo embeds in your posts (just like you could put YT embeds or whatever). Of course one would hope Patreon is trying to push Vimeo in the right direction there, but they've taken themselves nicely out of the equation and are not really on the hook except that annoyed users isn't good for them.

They seem to have backups. From the blogpost:

>I still have all the high-quality video files from all my Patreon/Vimeo uploads, but I'd rather not have to re-upload anything as well. The best part of posting a video on Patreon has always been reading your guys' comments, and deleting and re-uploading the videos would not only erase them, but also spam your inboxes with content you've already seen.

I think they should find a way to not pay the ransom for ethical reasons.

Patreon not Paterson.
