I don't usually say "read the comments" on YouTube, but ... read the comments.

Comments on other 'Air Safety Institute' videos are usually also quite good.

As with many other venues, a small, selected, and curated discussion can be good.

HN seems to be straining at those limits of late.

180 is always your friend. Even if you can't break back out into clear air, you know that you have ground clearance back there.

Always trust your instruments.

I once had to do a 180 when flying towards hills and cloud. Told ATC that I was turning and flying on my reciprocal course.

"Do you have VMC?" (Visual meteorological conditions)

"Yes. I do now."

"!!!!"

Holy sh.. that was terrifying. I thought about being a pilot, but decided I couldn't handle flying blind on instrument like that.

There’s a whole separate rating for learning exactly how to do that. I got my instrument rating last summer.

One very important skill you’re taught is to ignore what you feel-your inner ear will lie to you and try to kill you. Pay attention to the instruments to know whether you are turning or ascending/ decending.

I imagine there could be some sensory deprivation training (with instruments) that could help pilots learn to choose when they believe their feelings and when they can ignore them and instead more easily choose to believe the instruments.

This could be done safely and cheaply in a ground based facility.
