I've managed to get the compiler to typecheck

  const x: Thing = exprA;
  const y: Thing = exprB;
  const z = [x, y];

but somehow not:

  const z: Thing[] = [exprA, exprB];

although exprA and exprB were pretty nasty typing wise.
