The increased prison population because the war on drugs, was far from a “Nixon and Reagan project” as the post and linked Netflix documentary tries to portray it.

In fact it was a bipartisan effort, where the Congressional Black Caucus played a leading part, since they (rightly) concluded that drugs were a huge problem to their constituents in the inner cities.
