It's funny, yesterday I saw a billboard that was some variation on "consider a career as a truck driver" showing some people who didn't look like traditional truck drivers. Three years ago, there were all kinds of predictions about jobs most likely to be automated, with truck driver front and center. Now there are shortages (because companies won't pay better, they'd rather pay an association to make billboards and try and enlarge the candidate pool) and no sign that the jobs will go away in our lifetime. I'm sure there are billions in R&D going into unsuccessfully automating things. Maybe much of this money would be better spend paying the people who do the things now.
