The first few I click on do not exist (though some obviously do). But for the ones that do not (Telosa is just "scouting locations"), these are just creative writing of fancy utopian aspirations that either end in bankruptcy or dystopian novels.

Interesting, did you make this after Balaji's tweet because I did too

https://github.com/searchableguy/awesome-startup-cities

That said, I couldn't quite get what a startup city is supposed to capture. Still figuring out a consistent guidelines to apply before adding more entries.

I clicked on the question mark at the top of the page. It explains that there are 3 definitions of a startup city as given by Balaji Srinivasan.

Perhaps a github repository with this information that can be updated with pull requests would manage a more comprehensive list and information.

But this is a good start.

more like list of crypto-heavens and "planned economic city" projects

I think this is pretty cool. nice work @valkrieco

culdesac? french for dead end. how is this a positive reasoning from the architect? I wonder.

A cul-de-sac is a dead end for cars. Maybe these cities focus more on pedestrians than cars? Seems there are some priori for that line of thinking: https://culdesac.com/

> Welcome to Culdesac Tempe

> The first car-free neighborhood built from scratch in the US!

That's not really a neighborhood; it looks more like off-campus apartments for the nearby university.

The dirt rectangle on Google Maps' satellite view shows the extent of the "neighborhood": https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Arizona+State+University,+Te...

Never heard of that particular "neighborhood" and to be honest, the website kind of looks like a scam. I was just musing about how the name could make sense for the authors.

What is the purpose of this? Should we consider starting a startup in any of these places? Why is one better than the other?

Its a list of cities with ambitions based around startups, technology, or creating a better planned city.

Why the downvotes? The website doesn't explain any of my questions.

I can't take this list seriously :

  - Bitcoin Beach, El Salvador
  - Bitcoin City, El Salvador

That’s where you want to go if you want to setup a money laundering operation for drug money.

Err, i mean “decentralized finance”

Telosa is probably the most absurd

Wait till you see this https://twitter.com/nayibbukele/status/1483194959989719059

(that's their president speaking)

Wait till you hear how Hershey, Pennsylvania got its start.

They have a fantastic Theme park too

Where is Tallinn, Estonia?

Similarly, if Berlin is there, should Paris / London / Milan be as well?

They all offer similar tech scene as Berlin. I might miss something here. I haven’t been there in a while
