AWS Is Not a Dumb Pipe

Its all depends on moore law. Hyper scaler are basically blocking Moore law via pricing. I.e. if the power of hardware double every two years, the size of the cluster should half every two years, but this is not the case.

Note that this does not refer to new advancement in hardware, but rather not offering reduced price for used hardware.

Hence, an alternative cloud might come which use second hand hardware or will let moore law to exist. I.e. trying to compete with current cloud providers on new hardware if bound to fail, since they have economy of scale.

This is one of the reason that hyper scalers will always have high level services - to lock thier customers to thier version of moore law.
