But he was wrong. He conjectured there was no solution to any square of order 4n+2, but actually only orders 2 and 6 have no solutions.
A conjecture is not a proof, hence not something taken seriously. I'm sure he conjectured that there's no black swans (or similar) at some point, but that's not worth remembering.
