What is Xkcd counting down to?

XKCD (http://xkcd.com) currently had a countdown showing in the upper right, ending at the morning of January 31st 2020 in my time zone. What's up?

Hmmm could be the James Webb Space Telescope Student Art Contest due around this time[1].

I thought it was JWST deployment, but that finishes in 13 days. Maybe first images? But I'd assumed that would be further out.

Oh, this seems likely. Good idea.

We are in 2022 by the way.

Oops! I guess I need to be more careful when writing checks.

When I click on the countdown, it links to https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libreplanet-discuss/2022-....

Edit: On second examination, doesn’t appear to be linked. Not sure what I hit with my fat thumbs. :)

I grew up in NH. I've read through the bill and it's not only horribly written and way too overreaching, but would cripple the state for months and add $$$$$$$ to overhead costs in a state that's already dealing with some ridiculous behavior with legislators reneging on promised funding to counties and towns.

I don’t know, but there’s always a relevant XKCD, even for XKCD: https://xkcd.com/1159/ :)

National Backwards Day? https://nationaltoday.com/national-backward-day/

The first commercial fusion reactor.

Some discussion here but no solid guesses yet: https://www.reddit.com/r/xkcd/comments/s0oynl/xkcd_countdown...
