Not a big NFT fan, but this thread is weak. NFTs do try to solve the very real problem of indicating ownership of a purely digital item. Not my preferred way of solving the problem but whatever.

A lot of these critiques betray discomfort with abstraction.

Ultimately there has to be a central authority to verify it or it's all just bits in the bit bucket. In that case it would be just as good to have a certificate of authority from the original artist or a contract of such

Now try to explain this to the average people. These critiques are true. It's hard to understand.
