Lumping all age demographics together is irresponsible. People under 50 make up 2/3 of the population but only 7% or covid mortality.
Good public health policy should address the top threats per demographic.
Though I agree with your underlying point, if we can only focus on one problem at a time then we're also doomed.
I've seen too many posts by COVID-deniers referencing this statistic without the caveat.
Your caveat needs a caveat.
Another way to put it, if someone said that car accidents are the leading cause of death among children, killing several thousand each year. Responding with "it is irresponsible to such that is the number one killer of children without mentioning that hear attacks kill even more people."
Fentanyl is a synthetic drug with a much simpler structure than morphine or heroin. It is also 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin.
The former heroin producers in that region have noted that a) because it's synthetic you don't need any gigantic and easy-to-spot opium poppy fields and b) being 50 times more powerful makes it far easier to smuggle than an equivalent amount of heroin would be.

Not that fentanyl is safe but some addicts, like Denise in the article, used to be able to use it without dying, the same is almost impossible to do with carfentanyl.
