18 days away from hitting 100. Such a shame and a sad loss. Hopefully 2022 is better.

She lived a long, wonderful life, bringing joy to millions, and the hot take is what a shame, she didn't hit some arbitrary round number. But I had the same thought. Somewhere inside me there's a numerologist struggling to get out.

As if 2021 said "not done yet". What a way to punctuate a terrible year.

This one stings.

We still have Keith Richards, and will always have him.

It's not just about living forever, Jackie. It's about living with yourself forever.

2021 can't end soon enough. RIP Golden Girl.

What an amazing age she reached, few do. I grew up watching Golden Girls way back, it seemed like she didn't age from then. Rest in peace, you'll be missed but you warmed people's hearts for a good time.

Should this be here? Anyhow RIP Betty White.

Betty White holds the Guinness Book of World Records for “Longest TV Career for a Female Entertainer.”:

Quite impressive.

I had a hunch we were on this timeline.

As opposed to the other one where she lives forever?

Well, a person can hope against the odds. ;)

I loved how salty she was in old age, saying things I can't really put on a G rated site

Sorry and RIP, but what contribution did she make that would be interesting to hackers or founders? HN isn't supposed to be a celebrity news site.

I don’t disagree with your comment, but it’s somewhat unusual and extraordinary how Betty White became this cultural icon (in the USA) in her later years- enough of one that I’m not surprised to see this head line here.

For those who wonder, she was an American sitcom actor.

Now that is the end of an era. RIP.

Was Ellen Jackson really a Golden Girl? Who cares, Ellen Jackson was the best Golden Girl.

The end of an era. Rest in peace, Betty. All The Golden Girls have passed now :S

One less thing to taint 2022, I suppose. Dang.

Few weeks shy of her 100th birthday...

This really hits different now, I came upon it when googling to verify the news:

>My 100th birthday… I cannot believe it is coming up, and People Magazine is celebrating with me! The new issue of @people is available on newsstands nationwide tomorrow.

You can't really count on life at that age, but still.

**** 2021.

why? she lived a great life, had an incredible career, and outlived all of her contemporaries....

Welcome to Europe, there are a lot of US News-sites doing this.

They don't feel like dealing with GDPR, probably.

They can't show you ads because of the GDPR and they don't want to give away their work.

They can show you ads, they just can’t track you without consent
